The performance of non-mining energy (NME) products stood out, accounting for 78% of total exports and growing by 84.3%, positioning the department in 11th place among the country’s exporting regions.
In terms of destinations, North America, especially the United States, established itself as the main market for products from Santander, accounting for 35.7% of exports. It was followed by Africa with 20.3%, Asia with 15.1%, and Europe with 9%. Notably, Asia experienced the highest export growth, mainly driven by products such as cocoa and live animals.

This momentum in international markets was also reflected in the performance of product groups, where the agri-food sector showed significant increases, particularly in meat and cocoa exports.
The latter benefited from rising international prices, driven by lower production in African countries. Although the data only corresponds to the first quarter of the year, there is clear evidence of sustained growth in NME exports since mid-2024, which is an encouraging sign for the medium term.
